Attitude to England players
Has your attitude changed towards any of them now the tournament is over?

Have any surprised you? Any now you think more or less of?

Pickford for me , erratic sometimes yes but was there when it mattered ( mainly)

Kane for me continued diving for England the same as he does at club level. Slightly more palatable when he wears an England shirt on that front but still...

Sterling deserves some respect now for me more so. I also rate Maguire more than I did.

Mount I thought was better than he played but international is allegedly a higher standard.

Walker and Shaw for me were Englands best players throughout the tournament. Both have impressed me a lot.

I'm probably in a minority but I really like Kieran Trippier. He's confident and solid and went to Spain and won a title medal. Leaving Spurs is always a bonus.

Someone I've never been too keen on before - Harry Maguire.

The way he stepped up and smashed that penalty in when others were clearly wilting, understandably, from the pressure, was magnificent.

But I will still detest him when he is back playing for his club.

Re: Attitude to England players
Stones magnificent.

Slab head and Walker have impressed me the most

The rest were average bar Mount who was awful and we didn't see enough of Grealish. Sterling is overrated and no doubt City will be getting rid

Re: Attitude to England players
Maguire and Shaw are better than I've ever given them credit for. Especially Maguire.

We were bloody solid at the back, only one fortunate goal conceded in open play all tournament and one wonder free kick. The whole defence deserves massive credit.

Re: Attitude to England players
Lost any and all respect for Sterling. He's a cheat in the worst possible way. His antics last night were embarrassing.
Already knew that about Kane before the tournament, so that hasn't changed.

Kalvin PHILLIPS probably the one I think more of than before. But if we're ever going to develop into a team that wins by dominating, he still wouldn't be in the side for me.

Re: Attitude to England players
I’ve always rated Maguire so wasn’t surprised with him. I didn’t rate Phillips much but have changed my mind on him. Rice is still better though. Pickford also deserves a lot of credit, apart from a few moments in the semi final.

Re: Attitude to England players
Always rated Maguire, for me he is now teetering on world class, if he isn't already.

Walker showed he is more than just pace. Shaw was very good, and Pickford had a good comp.

Phillips showed he is comfortable at this level, and now Leeds have a real asset on their hands.

Sterling and Kane, despite some poor shows scored enough goals to get them a pass.

Rice had a very good tournament. As did Stones.

Re: Attitude to England players
Maguire impressed me as did Stones who seemed to eradicate the lapses of concentration that can sometimes slip in. Shaw has done really well to come back from practically being slaughtered by Mourinho. Bar some sloppy passes I thought Walker was our best player. His positional sense was outstanding and his pace electric. Trippier is always solid and Phillips didn't seem fazed at all and was pretty good considering he wasn't an obvious choice as a starter. Pickford, when not in hyper mode is solid and produced some fabulous saves. That penalty save, the second one was world class.

Re: Attitude to England players
So pleased that Phillips and rice have formed a partnership and that rice was finally given license to get forward a bit last night

For others, I think individually our defenders were good but not as a unit. I’m not sure quite how we managed to only concede twice because we didn’t look half as solid as the press have suggested. Maguire was excellent though, and shaw.

Mount - never does anything for England. He was awful last night, didn’t look comforatbale in the role he was playing and it annoyed me how long he was on for with sancho, grealish and saka on the bench

Kane - just needs more people around him. He was terrible himself for the first two games at least and looked injured, but after that he was like haller for us - just on his own and mostly not even bothering, competing for headers with no one to knock it down to or flick it on to and against defenders much bigger than him.

I’ve completely changed my mind about henderson though - before the tournament I thought he wasn’t good enough to start, now I think he’s just not good enough full stop (or at least not when he’s clearly not fit) Should never have been in the squad in the first place

I like the squad and the togetherness and the lack of ‘billy big bollock-ness’ in it. It’s really refreshing. Just a shame we don’t have a chiellini type to hold it together. Kane is not a captain.

So dou you think some teams that were considering Rice May now look towards Philips?

You could visibly see who were the most gutted last night about England losing.

Re: Attitude to England players
The only one that really surprised me is Walker, was excellent.

Maguire would only surprise me if he played as well at club level, always good for England.

Re: Attitude to England players
My thoughts on the English players haven’t changed. The only one I would drop is Pickford. Branded. Your not alone in liking Trippier. Felt the guy was world class since the last World Cup. And laugh my socks off when he left the filth. I always thought you should never make a striker you’re captain. Their sole task is banging them in. Not worrying about the rest of the team. A keeper, defender. Or centre midfielder should have the armband. They get to see the lay of the land a lot better than a forward. And can act accordingly.

Re: Attitude to England players
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I like them. As a group, as a collective from staff to managers, I like them. Pre-tournament, I was definitely in the anti-Southgate bridge, but a final for me is progress with the genuine aim of winning the 2022 WC.

Re: Attitude to England players
i agree, PB....they're generally one of the more likeable groups of England players.

Apart from the diving

and the shitcunt, look-at-me penalty run ups.

Other than that I don't mind most of them.

Shaw is the one that’s really gone up in my estimation. I thought he was excellent.

Maguire, Walker and Shaw were outstanding

Henderson just seemed to run around looking busy and chasing shadows

cholo 4:44 Mon Jul 12
Re: Attitude to England players
Maguire surely better suited to be captain, Kane just comes across as a bit of a wet blanket.
